Spicy Baked Chickpeas!

Hey everybody!!

I am back yet again with one of my favorite kind of food – another spicy, crunchy Indian snack item which is super easy to make!!! This one is for all those people who love munching on healthy snacks 🙂

So let’s get started right away.. Like always, here’s a teaser 😉 :


  • All you need: 

Chickpeas / Garbanzo – 2 Cups

Cooking oil (Spray)

Aluminium foil, Baking sheet

Salt – Per taste

Red chilli powder – 1/2 Teaspoon

Turmeric powder – 1/4 Teaspoon

Chaat masala – 1/4 Teaspoon

  • Time to prepare: 45 min – 1 hour
  • Let’s get started:

1> If using boiled/canned chickpeas, please skip the first two steps and all you have to do is completely drain the chickpeas of the can and run them under cold water and let them dry. If not, then you might have to start a day ahead, like I did. Soak the chickpeas in water overnight.


2> Pressure cook the chickpeas until nicely boiled with water and salt.


3> Spread the chickpeas (once a little cooled down) onto a baking sheet lined with aluminium foil as shown. Spray the chickpeas with oil.


4> Place the above in a 350 degree F pre-heated oven and bake for about 30-45 minutes, depending on your oven type and keep checking/stirring in between to make sure they don’t burn.


5> Now, take the out the baking tray once you find the chickpeas are nice and brown. Immediately add in some salt, chilli powder and chaat masala and mix well to coat the chickpeas with the spices.



That’s it you guys!!! As simple as that!!! Now enjoy your home-made crunchy snack with no guilt of deep frying 🙂



  • Tips / Variations:

> One can used canned chickpeas to save more time!

> You can use Olive oil to make it even more healthier

> You can add your own spices and be creative 🙂
